Steem (STEEM)
Steem (STEEM) is a cryptocurrency and platform for decentralized applications focused on the media industry, such as tools for blogs and video-hosting. Using an advanced Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system, the platform is able to provide very high transaction times with no fees. The underlying blockchain incorporates a fixed annual inflation system, which accounts for the ability to provide free transactions. The value of Steem had a quick initial rise after its 2016 release followed by a similarly rapid decline, and then rose and fell with the general digital currency boom of 2018. It is now near to its early 2016 price range again. It is a top 60 crypto coin by total market cap.The decentralized applications supported by the Steem platform are generally media-focused, and offer either direct services, such as blogging software, or supporting tools, such as Wordpress plugins. The coins provide a means for both influencing the development of the underlying blockchain through the Proof-of-Stake system and for transferring value during transactions between decentralized application users and developers. There are currently more than 1 million accounts registered on the platform by both users and developers.STEEM coins can be traded on some major cryptocurrency exchanges, and there is also a supported exchange that allows limited trading between major crypto coins and some fiat currencies.
