Uniswap launches its own layer-2 blockchain, Unichain


Uniswap Labs announced that Uniswap, the largest decentralized exchange (DEX), has launched its own application-specific layer-2 blockchain network, dubbed Unichain.

Following the announcement, the app chain testnet is already available and has promised to deliver faster and cheaper transactions and enhanced interoperability across blockchain networks.

Unichain is part of Optimism’s Superchain, an interoperable network of layer-2 scaling solutions built using Optimism’s technology stack. Other layer-2 chains like Base, Mode etc are built with the Optimism stack.

Just after the launch announcement, the token price surged by 25%. The new chain launch might provide more utility for the token economy in the future. 

Report: Global crypto adoption to hit 8% by 2025

Global cryptocurrency adoption is on track to hit a significant milestone, with 7.51% of the world’s population now using digital currencies, according to a report by MatrixPort.

The report projects this figure to exceed 8% by 2025 which will make cryptocurrency a mainstream sector of the financial market.

The increasing adoption can be attributed to the rise in institutional interest following the recent asset exposure offered by Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs—Exchange Traded-Fund. Also, the report notes that institutional interest is a key factor to the growth in adoption. 

More than 63,000 BTC has been deposited to exchanges in the last 72hrs.

According to data from CryptoQuant, roughly 28,000 BTC—Bitcoin was sent to exchanges on October 7th, then on October 8th an additional 23,500 BTC was transferred, and roughly 12,000 coins made their way to exchanges on October 9th.

In all, the data shows that over 63,500 BTC, valued at approximately $1.83B, was sent to crypto exchanges. 

Even though exchange inflows do not necessarily mean an intention to sell, high inflows indicate that investors may be prepared to sell in the near future.

Usually, when investors move funds from non-custodial wallets to exchanges, they are either looking to liquidate this asset or they are looking to stake it for returns.

South Korea allows division of crypto in divorce settlements

South Korean laws allow married couples in South Korea to divide cryptocurrency holdings during divorce proceedings, according to a law firm specializing in the country’s legal system.

South Korean law firm IPG Legal cleared the misunderstanding with regards to cryptocurrencies as an asset during divorce cases. While responding to clients, the firm said that under South Korean law, both tangible and intangible assets can be divided during a divorce:


“Under Article 839-2 of the Korean Civil Act, either spouse may request a division of marital assets accumulated during the marriage upon the divorce in Korea.”


The increased use of cryptocurrency in finance has led to its recognition as an asset in marital cases. This shows that there is a wide adoption of cryptocurrency across the world.

Samsung Pay integrates crypto payment option with Alchemy Pay

Already available on Google Pay, Alchemy Pay’s virtual card is now coming to Samsung Pay. Users will be able to spend their crypto using Samsung's contactless payment tool.

Announcing the news on Oct. 8, Alchemy Pay mentioned that the new Samsung Pay payment feature is being rolled out just a few weeks after the platform completed its integration with Google Pay in September.

MicroStrategy now holds $14.14B worth of BTC

MicroStrategy, a publicly traded business intelligence and software company, has announced they acquired approximately 18,300 Bitcoin worth $1.1B between Aug. 6 and Sept. 12, 2024.

The $1.11B bitcoin buy was made at an average price of $60,408 per Bitcoin including expenses and fees, this purchase was possible after MicroStrategy sold eight million company shares through a sales agreement.

MicroStrategy now holds a total of 226,500 BTC worth close to $14B according to Bitcoin Treasuries data.


It’s a strong signal of institutional trust in the continuing growth of Bitcoin as a good asset for storing wealth. 

Coinbase launches ‘cbBTC’ wrapped Bitcoin digital asset.

On Sept. 12, Coinbase announced the launch of cbBTC—a wrapped Bitcoin product. The cbBTC is fully backed by physical Bitcoin held by the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

The cbBTC launch went live a few weeks after BitGo announced changes to the structure of its Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) product. The new product was launched on the Ethereum network, as well as Coinbase’s layer-2 scaling platform, Base for decentralized finance Market. 


The idea of wrapped Bitcoin on Ethereum and Base network will help to deepen the decentralized financial market of digital assets, creating liquidity and asset exposure for decentralized trading and investments.

UK government introduces bill to clarify crypto’s legal status


In a Sept. 11 notice, the UK government announced that the Property Bill would create clarity on the legal status of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), cryptocurrency and carbon credits. 

The legislation has proposed that the government will create an additional category for property under UK law, to assess whether digital assets including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be classified as “things”.

It's a welcoming development for investors as regulators are looking to create a conducive environment for trading and investing in digital assets.

Japan’s Metaplanet buys more Bitcoin as its Bitcoin stash nears 400 BTC

3Commas News reported earlier in August, the plans of Metaplanet to buy more bitcoin. The Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has now purchased more Bitcoin, bringing the total Bitcoin that it holds to nearly 400 Bitcoin and sending its share price on a 5.9% rally on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The firm said on Sept. 10 that it purchased 38.46 Bitcoin for $2.1M (300M Japanese yen), bringing its total buys to 398.8 Bitcoin — worth $23M.

The company's stock price has increased to 480% since it unveiled its Bitcoin strategy in April. This is the tenth Bitcoin purchase since its first on April 23, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data

Central Bank of UAE approves custodial risk insurance products for the region. 


The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has approved a new product allowing OneDegree to provide digital assets custodial risk insurance. 

OneDegree, a Hong Kong-based insurance provider and the UAE’s Dubai Insurance announced that they have started providing digital asset custodial risk insurance to their customers in UAE. 


“Custodial risk insurance covers Web3 exchanges, custodians, asset managers, etc., against the risk of losing access to customers’ digital assets. This may be caused by a hacking event, physical damage to the storage media or internal fraud.”

This new product will encourage traditional and institutional investors to test the cryptocurrency market which will boost the market growth and foster the growth of the crypto industry.

Documentary filmmaker Cullen Hoback and HBO recently announced the release of their upcoming film “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” along with hints that the true identity of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto may finally be revealed.


Cullen Hoback is known for his HBO miniseries “Q: Into the Storm” wherein he claims to have identified several of the authors of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Taiwan announces new AML laws to be effective by January 2025.

The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) of Taiwan has introduced new Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations mandating virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to comply with it by 2025. These new regulations will replace the current one and require full compliance of VASPs. 


The new regulations require all crypto firms to register with the government by September 2025 even if they have completed the old compliant measures or they will face penalties, including a two-year prison sentence or fines of as much as 5 million New Taiwan dollars ($155,900). The new regulations take effect starting January 1, 2025.

Binance is now available in Argentina after securing VASP license

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is now fully operational in Argentina after securing registration with the country’s securities regulator. 

In an announcement shared with Cointelegraph, Binance said that it had been incorporated into the Argentine virtual asset service provider (VASP) registry of the National Securities Commission (CNV). The exchange said this is its 20th registration with regulators worldwide. 

Traders residing in Argentina can now pivot to Binance and access its services while staying compliant to cryptocurrency laws in their jurisdiction.


Bitwise files XRP ETF trust listing in Delaware

Bitwise has filed for XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF) listing as was seen on the State of Delaware’s Division of Corporations website. 

According to the filing, the Bitwise XRP ETF was incorporated on Sept. 30, 2024. The registered agent was listed as CSC Delaware Trust Company, which is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware.

According to Cointelegraph reports, a Bitwise spokesperson confirmed filing the XRP exchange-traded fund trust registration with the state of Delaware.

$1.1B TIA Token Release to Push October’s Crypto Unlocks to Almost $2B

Almost $2B in tokens from major projects will be unlocked in October, with 175.75M Celestia tokens worth $1.1B in current market prices accounting for over 50% of the unlocks. 

Also, a Web3 social network project called Cheelee, is scheduled to unlock $300M in vested crypto tokens on Oct. 10. Other unlocks include; Aptos APT, Arbitrum ARB, Axie Infinity AXS, ImmutableX IMX, GateToken (GT), Starknet STRK, Internet Computer ICP and Ethena Labs ENA. These projects are scheduled to unlock almost $600M in tokens for open-market trading.


The current market trend is bullish and many people are already over optimistic and excited about October and looking to have a higher uptrend in October. Changpeng Zhao's Early Release Comes Today

Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ, the founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, is set to be released from custody in Long Beach, California, earlier than expected after his resignation from Binance and jail term. 

This marks the end of his four-months jail term after he was convicted in the United States for failing to implement proper anti-money laundering measures at Binance. The early release is a common practice due to a policy which states that an inmate can be released earlier if his release date falls on the weekend. CZ is still the largest shareholder at Binance with a $60B net worth making him the 25th richest man in the world.


A few days ago, the BNB price skyrocketed to new highs of over 5%. It’s highly likely that this is connected to Zhao’s release and presumed resumption of influence over the direction of Binance. 


PayPal Enables Business Accounts to Buy, Sell, and Trade Crypto


PayPal started allowing individual retail customers to buy, sell, and hold crypto directly from their PayPal and Venmo accounts in 2020. 

But on September 25, PayPal announced that PayPal Business accounts can now buy, sell, and trade crypto directly from their PayPal accounts. The new feature will be available across the United States for all merchants except those in New York.

US SEC Delays Decision on BlackRock’s and Bitwise's Ethereum Options Trading

According to a filing released on Sept. 24, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced a delay in its decision to approve options trading for spot Ethereum ETFs of BlackRock and Bitwise.


The decision regarding its approval was initially expected by Sept. 26-27, but the regulatory body has currently extended its review period to Nov. 10-11 under Section 19(b) (2) of the Securities Exchange Act.

A decision on Ethereum ETF options has been pushed back to November, four days after Blackrocks’s IBIT options trading was approved. 

This cautious approach highlights the SEC commitment to protecting the trading environment for the traders. This was an approach seen with the BlackRock’s IBIT approval which was an eight-month review, addressing concerns about market manipulation and regulatory risks.

Ethena to launch new stablecoin backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL


Ethena Labs, developer of the decentralized stablecoin protocol Ethena, is working on a new stablecoin backed by a tokenized fund from BlackRock. The stablecoin will be backed by BlackRock’s tokenized BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), which offers a stable value of $1 per token.


According to Ethena Labs, the UStb stablecoin will be a separate fiat stablecoin product alongside USDe (USDE), a synthetic dollar stablecoin issued by Ethena in February.


“This will exist as an isolated product separate from USDe offering users and exchange partners a new product with a differentiated risk profile to USDe,” Ethena Labs said.


This new development from Ethena still highlights the adoption of stablecoins and a caution also for traders to avoid being a victim of loss should the stablecoin depeg. Such stablecoin depeg scenario was recorded during the Luna crash incident.

Kraken crypto exchange launches own Wrapped Bitcoin token

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has launched its own tokenized version of Bitcoin representing BTC holdings stored by the exchange and audited by Trail of Bits, a security auditing firm that has worked on projects like Worldcoin.


The new kBTC was introduced on Oct 17, and launched across interoperable networks including Ethereum and OP Mainnet (formerly Optimism). The wrapped Bitcoin — kBTC is backed 1:1 by an equivalent amount of Bitcoin in the custody of Kraken Financial, a Wyoming-chartered special purpose depository institution.


Bitcoin as the base currency of the cryptocurrency market has made it convenient to have it across DApps — Decentralized Applications. The new kBTC will be reportedly available for the decentralized market, providing the market with more deep liquidity.


Spot Bitcoin ETFs reach $20B in net flows.


The spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States has achieved a significant record in net flows, just as Bitcoin nears previous all-time high again.


US-based spot Bitcoin ETFs crossed $20B in total net flows on Oct. 17. It only took spot Bitcoin ETFs 10 months to achieve $20B net flow while it took Gold ETFs roughly five years to record the same net flows.


The adoption of cryptocurrency is inevitable, it is also obvious that institutional and traditional investors appear to choose investing in Bitcoin to gold because of its scarcity and limited supply, where only 21M Bitcoin will exist.


Ireland drafting an urgent crypto regulation ahead of EU money laundering laws


Ireland is preparing to draft “urgent” cryptocurrency regulations ahead of upcoming European Union Anti-Money Laundering and terror financing standards.


According to the Irish Examiner, a local news outlet, the Ireland’s Finance Minister, Jack Chambers, made this public to the cabinet stressing the need for an urgent legislation to update crypto regulations before the EU laws take effect on Dec. 30.


The EU’s “Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Act” will empower financial intelligence units, allowing them to suspend transactions. It will also introduce strict reporting requirements for crypto exchanges and a 10,000 euro ($10,850) limit on cash payments.


Traders should be aware of how these new laws will affect tax reporting and crypto asset declarations to adhere to the Anti-Money Laundering laws.


Italy wants to increase capital gains tax on Bitcoin from 26% to 42%.


The Italian government wants to increase the capital gains tax for investments in Bitcoin to 42% from 26%. This was made public by the Deputy Economy Minister, Maurizio Leo. 

During the news conference at Palazzo Chigi on Oct. 16, Leo said that the withholding tax on Bitcoin capital gains should rise to 42% per Italy's new budget bill, which the Council of Ministers approved.


Leo also said that the bill would remove the minimum revenue requirement of 750M Euros for the Digital Services Tax which was introduced as part of the country’s budget in 2019.


Traders should be aware of this new development in order to strategically make the right crypto investment decisions.


Crypto companies paid $19B in settlements to US regulators in 2024.


Since 2019, US regulators have collected a total of $31.92B in settlements from 25 crypto companies across various lawsuits. 


Data from CoinGecko shows bankrupt crypto exchange FTX and affiliated trading firm Alameda are majority of the funds after paying $12.7B to the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in an August settlement. 


The total settlement does not involve individual lawsuits against executives. The total settlement amounts included forfeiture, disgorgement, civil penalties, settlement and prejudgment interest.


Traders should take caution when trading on some crypto exchanges. Most of the exchanges on the settlement list have shut down operation. Traders are encouraged to avoid exchanges with shady activities that are against regulatory rules.

Bitcoin miner wallets move for the first time in over 15 years — Is this Satoshi?

In recent on-chain transaction data, wallets belonging to early Bitcoin miners who got coins as rewards just after the blockchain’s launch by its pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, have recently been observed moving their Bitcoin.

On Sept. 20, five miner wallets that received 50 Bitcoin each as block rewards in 2009 started to move their funds. Blockchain data shows that one wallet received the mining reward on Jan. 29, 2009, while three others got block rewards on Jan. 31, 2009. The last wallet received a block reward on Feb. 2, 2009.


This might signal to traders that the crypto market could be gearing up to experience the biggest bull run ever. It can also be interpreted as a signal to some traders that a significant dump may be coming up. 

MicroStrategy announced a third debt offering of 2024 in a new plan to raise $700M. 


MicroStrategy has just raised $700M from selling senior convertible notes. MicroStrategy explains that the proceeds will be used to pay off $500M in existing debt and to purchase more Bitcoin. The convertible senior notes will be due in 2028.  MicroStrategy currently holds 244,800 BTC. 

This is the third debt offering of 2024 from MicroStrategy. The company raised around $700M in a debt offering in March, followed by another $500M in debt offering for the month of June due in 2032.


It’s a strong signal of institutional trust in the continuing growth of Bitcoin as a good asset for storing wealth. 


House Republicans demand that SEC’s Gensler clarify crypto airdrops 

US Representatives Tom Emmer and Patrick McHenry gave Gary Gensler, the US SEC’s Chairperson until the end of the month to answer questions about the SEC’s approach to crypto airdrops. 

Hydrogen Technology Corporation and its former CEO were sued in September 2022 by the SEC for market manipulation of what it called crypto asset securities.

The SEC alleged that the company minted over 11B Hydro tokens for fundraising and distributed them as airdrops, which the SEC called “unregistered offers and sales of their securities.”

The idea of regulating crypto airdrops will not be a welcoming development for the crypto community. This is because new projects utilizing such ideas as this will slow-down blockchain network growth since airdrops are mostly used to incentivize users for active participation. 


Tether USDT’s market share surged from 55% to 75% in two years

Tether’s US dollar-denominated stablecoin now controls three fourths of the entire stablecoin market, following significant adoption over the past two years.

Tether USDT’s market share has surged over the past two years due to widespread adoption as a crypto coin trading pair and as a payment option, according to Token Terminal. The world’s largest stablecoin issuer generated around $400M worth of revenue during the past 30 days.

Bybit gets provisional crypto license from Dubai regulator


The Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) has granted Bybit a non-operational license to operate in the region.

The world’s second largest crypto exchange by derivatives volume has secured a provisional license for retail and institutional crypto investors in Dubai two years after moving its headquarters to the region. 

In a recent regulatory development, the Securities And Commodities Authority (SCA) and VARA announced that the Dubai-licensed virtual asset service providers (VASPs) will be able to operate in the entire country.

The phishing emails were distributed to 3Commas users through a mass email service known as Mailmuch.io. We have taken measures to report this activity to the email service provider, and they are working on suspending the malicious account.

Here are a few examples of the addresses used to dispatch the phishing message: contact@salams.app, info@unlayer.com. However, it is essential to note that these deceptive emails may come from various addresses.

Most of the Mt. Gox Bitcoin has been sent to Creditors.

On June 24, the Arkham Intelligence data recorded two transfers of 5,106 Bitcoin which were sent out at 6:16 am UTC. One outward transfer of 2,237 BTC worth $147M was sent to Bitstamp and another 2,869 BTC was sent to an unknown address.


The unknown address, beginning with “1MzhW,” promptly shifted the funds to another wallet, beginning with “12azL,” followed by one last move to addresses linked to Bitstamp.


According to CryptoQuant data, over 66% of the BTC owed to creditors of Mt. Gox has been distributed. Arkham Intelligence Mt.Gox Bitcoin outflow data suggests that only $10M worth of Bitcoin is remaining. 


Why does it matter? The long awaited sell pressure on Bitcoin price due to the various news from different entities might die down sooner.

Cardano ready for Chang hard fork after latest validator node release


Cardano intends to transition to decentralized governance with the Chang hard fork, a Voltaire era of governance for Cardano chain validators.


The latest version of the validator node, Node 9.1.0, is an upgrade of Node 9.0 released on July 8. This latest upgrade will enable the transition to the Chang hard fork. 11% of the necessary 70% of validators have upgraded to the latest version so far.


Voltaire is the final era planned for the network and is marked by the transition of governance to the community.
