About Stellar (XLM)

Stellar (XLM) is a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) platform founded by the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF). The platform was created in 2014 and went live in 2015, intending to link financial systems around the globe and establish a protocol for payment services and banking institutions.

Stellar connects individuals, financial institutions, and payment services and enables users to trade various cryptocurrencies. The platform is designed to transfer finances affordably, quickly, and reliably. In addition, the platform's crypto asset facilitates international transactions by addressing the issues of high fees and cumbersome processes.

The platform's foundation is its native token, Lumens, also known as XLM. This token serves as an intermediate currency for transactions and transaction fee charges. XLM focuses more on helping people transfer funds than on helping institutions. As a result, the network provides access to financial systems, enabling quick and inexpensive international money transfers.

The distributed ledger technology on which Stellar is built is an open-source project that is distributed and controlled by the project's community. Stellar also functions as a decentralized exchange with an integrated order book that keeps track of asset ownership. As a result, users of the platform can manage buy/sell orders and choose their preferred assets for settlements.

Lumens (XLM) price history

Stellar's initial coin offering (ICO) raised $39 million. Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), which directs the network's development, manages Stellar's supply. One hundred billion XLM tokens were initially created with a 1% annual inflation rate. Since then, the inflation rate has been canceled.

Stellar reduced its total token supply to 50 billion in 2019. The network did this by burning more than half of its supply. Less than an hour after the 50 billion tokens were removed from the project; prices increased by over 14% as the number of tokens still in use decreased.

The price of XLM set a record high of $0.86 during the crypto bull run of 2017. After that, XLM's price experienced a significant fall during a bear market to a low of $0.03. But in May 2021, Lumens hit an all-time high of $0.73.

How does XLM work?

Lumens enable one form of currency to be sent from one peer and received by a recipient as a different currency. During the transaction, the currency would transition through other currencies. The Stellar network accomplishes this by checking to see if a direct currency pair swap is viable.

Suppose the direct currency pair swap isn't available. In that case, the network checks to see if any Lumens holders are interested in buying the initial currency. Once it has acquired those Lumens, it can look for a pair of Lumens and the recipient's desired currency. Consequently, it makes possible value transfers between currencies that don't have a popular trading pair.

Stellar was designed to complement existing assets and cryptos by enabling users to develop a digital representation of any asset as Lumens. These can be utilized to conduct transactions on the blockchain and are redeemable for the base asset at any moment.

Applications of Stellar

Stellar enables the creation, sending, and trading of any digital currency. Transactions on the network can be made in euros, dollars, bitcoin, and any currency you can think of. The project's goal is for all financial institutions to collaborate on a single network.

Stellar users can produce tokens that serve as tradeable, redeemable conceptions of any asset. For the most part, tokens linked to currencies usually provide more utility. For example, digital dollars enable borderless and immediate transactions. However, Stellar creates a token for anything, including gold or stocks.

As a cross-border transfer and payment network that links financial companies, Stellar aims to reduce transaction costs and processing times, and its consensus protocol serves as its key differentiator. In contrast to other protocols, this one restricts access to a select few trusted nodes in the transaction authentication process.

How Is the Stellar Network Secured?

This network is protected by the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Since anyone can become a validator node, the Stellar network is completely decentralized and secure. Additionally, the project's implementation of a small fee for each transaction addressed the primary issue with many zero-transaction blockchains.

How do I buy XLM?

The simplest method is to purchase XLM through a broker or exchange. Lumens is listed on many exchanges and brokerages due to the project's size. You can buy, sell, send, and receive XLM by creating an account on these trading platforms. Exchanges for buying lumens include Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, and DEX apps like SterlarX.
