Ark (ARK) was launched in 2017 as a cryptocurrency and platform for both the development of custom blockchains and for their interaction. This sandbox system means that users can employ the underlying blockchain for their custom needs, but then still communicate with other blockchain-based systems that are employing using different protocols. It was also designed to have significantly faster transaction times when compared to first generation digital currencies.The value of Ark saw a gradual increase in 2017 leading into the industry-wide crypto boom and bust of 2018. It has since fallen back to levels that remain elevated relative to its pre-crypto boom price.
